My newest addition to the simpit is the Tobii Eye Tracker 5. This incorporates both head tracking and eye tracking without the head mounted IR lights of my TrackIR5 Pro. So far, it is a little more jerky in it's movements than TrackIR, but I am still playing with the settings. One thing I'm hoping to fix, is the tracking of the HMCS. Currently, My head has to rotate to look to the side, but the center of the HMCS reticle is lagging behind my view. In other words, I have to turn my eyes back to see the reticle. The further aft I look, the more I have to turn my eyes. I am experimenting with using only the head tracking function. The eye tracking is a little too much. Especially because I am using my 2D simpit with external viewports. Looking at these off the big screen tracks the eyes with it. I believe there may be a delicate balance for adding a little eye tracking but not much. Looking inside the aircraft is a little jittery at the moment. When trying to activate switches through the mouse, the switches jump more than with TrackIR at the moment. Making them a little harder to activate and therefore, slower. I had to move my TV up higher than I'd like to allow the sensor to mount below the TV. I may have to lower my seat's center console so the sensor can see my face better when looking down. So far, the Tobii 5 has great potential. If I can work out these settings to smooth it out, It has potential to be better than TrackIR. Even that took me some time to get it set the way I liked it. I'm sure this will too. First impressions are that it is nice equipment.
