The trail follows route 18 in Ed Shoote’s Gravel Rides Scotland guidebook: Invercauld and the River Gairn. It’s a wild and remote location served with a fantastic network of pathways, presenting no difficulty for gravel bikes and MTBs. Although the ascent up the shoulder of Culardoch is a killer of a climb it’s rewarded with a swift, flowy downhill all the way back to the River Dee. Watch out for the drainage channels though - they took a bite out of my rear tyre!
