Catheter Ablation Definition: A minimally invasive procedure using a catheter to destroy (ablate) abnormal electrical pathways or tissues in the heart, treating arrhythmias. Indications: 1. Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) 2. Atrial fibrillation (AFib) 3. Ventricular tachycardia (VT) 4. Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome 5. Atrial flutter 6. Ventricular ectopy Procedure: 1. Insertion of catheter through femoral vein or artery 2. Guided by fluoroscopy and electroanatomic mapping 3. Catheter positioned at targeted site 4. Ablation energy delivered (radiofrequency, cryo, or laser) 5. Verification of successful ablation Types of Ablation: 1. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) 2. Cryoablation 3. Laser ablation 4. Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) Benefits: 1. Minimally invasive 2. Low risk of complications 3. High success rate (up to 90%) 4. Reduced need for anti-arrhythmic medications 5.
