Hello friends! Today we are in romantic Sevilla, Spain and we will visit the Real Alcazar of Sevilla (Royal Palace of Seville). This is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Spain's national treasures. This royal palace was built for the Christian King Peter of Castile (Pedro I) on the site of a destroyed Muslim fortress. Today, the upper floors are still used as a Royal Palace when the royal family visit the city. The palace is an excellent example of the Mudejar style which combines Muslim, Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance elements. The Mudejar construction system was actually simple and used inexpensive materials such as brick, stucco and wood, which made it suitable for architecture that needed to be built quickly. The construction was both functional but also highly decorative. The intricate ornamental details including fanciful arches, colorful tile work, gilded wood and carved stucco tracery are amazing to behold. I hope you enjoy! Game of Throne fans may also recognize the Alcazar as the Water Gardens, the retreat for the House Martell in the Kingdom of Dorne! Scenes were shot in the Hall of the Ambassadors, Maria Padilla baths, Mercury's Pond and the gardens. We are GOT fans ourselves and had fun looking for the filming locations!
