(3 Mar 2022) Trains filled to capacity continued to arrive in Lviv on Thursday as hundreds of people sought shelter and safety after fleeing the ever increasing danger in Kyiv. One refugee spoke of the amount of time it took to get a place on a train and the extended time the journey took. "I go to the central station in Kyiv yesterday at 12pm (10GMT) and I try find a place in train until 7pm (17GMT), so this train arrived in 12 hours and it was a long trip, with many peoples, many children and everyone looking for a safe place," said Alex Hrynko, a personal assistant from Kyiv. The decision to flee had been growing continuously as the fighting swelled around Ukraine's capital. "Kyiv in every hour was more dangerous than before"," Hrynko added. As the passengers emerge from the station, they are met by an army of volunteers offering advice and hot refreshments. "We are coordinating them, what they can do and where they can go, so we organised their bus travelling system," said 16-year-old volunteer Lev Franko. More than 1 million people have fled Ukraine following Russia's invasion, in the swiftest refugee exodus this century, the United Nations said Thursday. UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) has predicted that up to 4 million people could eventually flee Ukraine.
