Sunday, December 14, 2025 "Wrongful Prosecutions and the Double Murder Conviction of UVA Jefferson Scholar Jens Soering,” with J.E. “Chip” Harding, Former Sheriff of Albemarle County In 2017, J.E. “Chip” Harding, former Sheriff of Albemarle County, reviewed the conviction of Jens Soering, a UVA Jefferson Scholar serving two life terms for the murders of his girlfriend’s parents. Harding became convinced that crucial evidence was overlooked — and that much of what was presented pointed to Soering’s innocence. He urged Governor Terry McAuliffe to grant a pardon, and in 2019, after 33 years in prison, Soering was released on parole and returned to Germany. Harding knows this world well: 30 years with the Charlottesville Police Department, named one of America’s Top 10 Cops in 2007, and later Sheriff of Albemarle County. The case is now featured in the Netflix documentary Till Murder Do Us Part. Join us for this compelling forum and decide for yourself.
