In addition to its own engine, the System-8's plug-out architecture supports sound engines from the Roland Juno-106, JX-3P and Jupiter-8. The Roland System 8 features 3 oscillators with multiple waveform variations, 1 LFO with multiple waveshapes including sine/triangle/saw/square/random/S&H, mixer for osc1/osc2/osc3/noise, pitch envelope, LPF/HPF with multiple slopes, envelopes for pitch, filter & amp, and effects including reverb, delay and chorus. The Roland System 8 also features a 49-key keyboard, 8 voices of polyphony, portamento, 64-step recording and real-time sequencer, arpeggiator, chord memory, vocoder, ring modulator, osc sync and FM synthesis capabilities. The Roland System-8 plug-out synthesizer is a very versatile synth and the ACB technology allows it to model Roland's vintage synths with ease.
