Will Perkins asked Tom to read through some well-known rags by well-known composers, from the famous "Classic Piano Rags" book. This one, however, probably is one of the least-known rags by the great composer James Scott. You can download the sheet music here: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Rag_Sen... Being from 1918, this rag was published in a smaller typesetting and on smaller paper, which was a conservation effort during the war that resulted in the standard 8.5×11-inch page size still in use in America. As James Scott did not title his rags, there isn't necessarily anything sentimental about the music; it was just a title that publisher John Stark came up with. I think the war probably was making people feel sentimental about things, and the waning popularity of the classic rag format probably was something Stark was feeling sentimental about himself. Recorded at the May 2012 meeting of the Mother Lode Ragtime Society. http://www.suttercreekragtime.com
