Nine people are in custody following Operation Proud Citizen in Lakeside. The operation was held from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1st. Operation Proud Citizen is the first phase in a multi-faceted approach to reducing the incidence of crime and disorder in Crime Free Multi-Housing communities in Lakeside. "Keeping Illegal Activity Out of Rental Property" is the goal of the Sheriff's Department Crime Free Multi-Housing (CFMH) program. To learn more about Crime Free Multi-Housing, visit http://bit.ly/xlJtLP. During Wednesday's operation, known and chronic offenders on probation were visited to ensure they are following the conditions of their release and the rules of their apartment lease. Under a CFMH lease, a tenant could be evicted if they are involved or brought in visitors involved in crime, drug or gang activity. 75% of the people visited were in compliance with their parole or probation. Eight adults were arrested for charges which include possession of methamphetamine, burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia, parole violations, and child endangerment. They were arrested and booked into jail. One wanted juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall. Four young children were taken into protective custody for exposure to drugs or child endangerment. The County Probation Department and Child Welfare Services also took part in the operation. Other components of Operation Proud Citizen include inspections at local alcohol retailers, a warrant sweep conducted by the Sheriff's Court Services Bureau and a community awareness day set for Saturday, February 11th.
