The only plastic piece is the window on mine since I got the crank version. I was super impressed with the quality of the build. There is even a ball-bearing sleeve around the crankshaft which makes for a quality, durable action of the grinding crank. The shape of the grinding surfaces makes for quick, effective work of whatever you are grinding. The grind comes out a bit too coarse for my particular tastes, thanks to the large holes around the edge and lack of grinding blades that sweep over them. There is a small gap between the grinding blades and the edge of the grinding cavity that enable this. I was a little disappointed that there was some areas where the black paint was flaking off. I don't know what kind of paint it is, but I certainly don't want it mixing in with whatever I am grinding. Threads can be a little finicky to get started, but hold solid. Just be cautious not to cross-thread it and strip them out. Clean the machine oil off before use. Pros: All metal construction Ball bearing for crank Quality craftsmanship Cons: Rather coarse grind (personal preference) Flaking paint on the black one Threads are a little finicky, but solid once you get started. While I am tempting to dock a star for the flaking paint and grinding gap, the rest of this grinder is so well made that I am giving it a full 5-star rating. I would recommend looking for a non-painted one if you can, but it is certainly a grinder well worth the money, and it will last. The ball bearing around the crank enables this to grind some pretty hard and heavy materials. Very versatile.
