In the first century, it was a given that if you were Jewish and believed in the God of Israel, you would seek to follow His Torah. There was a rabbinical system with two main Pharisaic sects (Hillel and Shammai). The Jewish religious debates were not IF you should follow the Torah but the proper way HOW to follow the Torah. Yeshua gave the Torah at mount Sinai. We are to follow His Torah through the help and leading of the Holy Spirit. This is how Paul testified that he followed the Torah (Romans 7:22). What about non-Jewish believers in Yeshua who attended synagogue services where the Torah was taught? (Acts 13:42-44). Do they follow Yeshua and His Torah by the Holy Spirit or do they follow the Pharisaic decrees and rulings of the rabbis? This is the main issue that Paul was addressing in the book of Galatians.
