Wario Blast © 1993 Hudson Soft, Nintendo Video list Super Game Boy Full: You are here. Super Game Boy Minimal: • Wario Blast - SGB Minimal Full Playthrough Game Boy Player: • Wario Blast - Game Boy Player Full Playthr... My occasional gear and game supplier Alex lent me his Super Game Boy a few months ago. Only recently did I get to mucking around with it, discovering a few interesting things in the process... -SGB enhanced titles have some color/border enhancements. Ok, this was common knowledge. -SGB titles played on GB color mode (grayscale, no color), display CORRECT GB shades of gray, compared to my Game Boy Player, which has significantly darker colors (see the accompanying video). I already knew that the GBA hardware displayed bad wrong GBC colors, but I didn't know that applied to the original GB gray shades as well. -ALL GB titles played on a SGB have something like a ~2.4% speedup in gameplay, due to the fact that the SNES it is connected to outputs video frames at a higher frequency. This isn't really noticable, but unfortunately, the sound is also affected, outputting at 2.4% higher pitch and tempo, which is VERY noticable when compared against playing GB games on a GB/C/A. With all the differences between devices taken into account, that means there is NO WAY to get recording footage which is 100% representative of the original GB hardware. Same for GBC as well, the only way is with the Game Boy Player, which has wrong colors. Sad face.... Which brings up a problem for me to solve regarding GB playthroughs. I am left between correct GB colors but accelerated sound, or wrong GB colors but correct sound. Hrrmmm....in this case I just decided to do three variants: SGB enhanced, SGB but using grayscale color and no border, and a GBP playthrough. I'm definitely not asking you to watch all three. Although, you certainly can if you want. And at the very least I recommend you a peek at least to see and hear the differences. So with that, let's start. This one is the SGB fully enhanced video, with borders and SGB colors. To be honest, this ain't my favorite. The colors are pretty damn ugly, at least on my computer monitor. I imagine it would look much nicer on a properly set up CRT television though. Real scanlines make a huge difference with these old low resolution games.
