Phillip Sear plays a mesmerising prelude from a set written in the 1930s and published in 1940 by the tragic Soviet composer Boris Goltz (1913-1942). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boris Goltz (1913-1942) was born in Tashkent, and from the age of 15 made a living by playing piano in silent movie theatres. He went to the (then) Leningrad Conservatory, and achieved early success with his piano concerto. He was working on his first symphony when (rather than being evacuated to Central Asia with many of his fellow students) he took up arms against the Germans, and died during the siege, in March 1942. He was postumously championed by the great Russian pianist Vladimir Sofronitsky, but remains neglected. This wonderful piece comes across to me as a blend of the Chinese-tinged music of Alexander Tcherepnin, and the simple utterance of Bernstein's 'My House' from his music to 'Peter Pan' - some recommendation! My thanks to the viewer who recommended that I look at Goltz's preludes! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: [email protected] WhatsApp: http://wa.me/441444483794 ) TikTok: / pianogems
