Bendy and the Ink Machine: The Story of Mike Mood and TheMeatly

TheMeatly is a puppet. Mike Mood is a human. Together, completely by accident, they created Bendy and the Ink Machine. Bendy and the Ink Machine is probably our most requested video - a lot of you guys were asking for this for most of last year, and we had no idea what it was. Turns out, you were right to ask for it, as these guys have a fascinating story. Mike Mood has spoken about what he calls the "accidental success" of this game - while the pair were trying to make a completely different indie game, TheMeatly got distracted and spent a weekend putting together a creepy horror game that borrowed its appearance from oldschool animation. Clearly there was something in the air in 2017 that led to two high profile indie titles that centered around this kind of animation, and while Cuphead is definitely the more popular of the two, it's hard to deny the appeal of Bendy, and the huge audience that the character has earned. It's interesting to learn, then, that TheMeatly came up with the character thanks to a laggy computer and a funny typo (hence the thumbnail for this video!). The moral here is that it's nice to work together. Certainly, that's how we do things here at Video Game Story Time, as both of us contribute to the videos (we don't keep score, but it's pretty clear that BretonStripes gets more praise for her audio work than Kotor does for his drawing!). We like working together, it makes things more fun, so when a duo like TheMeatly and Mike Mood come along, this was a story we felt we had to tell.
