IPR's Zachary Oren Smith interviews Emily Martin, an avid snow globe collector, about her "Let It Snow" exhibit inside the University of Iowa Pentacrest Museums' 2023 "MY Collections" wing. Some of her over 175 snow globes are on display on the UI campus, alongside Iowan Tricia Bender's collection of miniature houses, titled "Hold Me Closer, Tiny Houses." The Pentacrest Museums have been updating the "MY Collections" exhibits since 2021 as a means of involving community members and their collections in the life of the museum. Martin explains what she finds so sentimental about her beloved –– yet "crummy" and "almost always made in China" –– plastic trinkets, and walks us through a few of her favorites. Music: "I Still Believe" performed by James Tutson & The Rollback and the Bridges 2 Harmony Gospel Choir. Audio recorded live and mixed by Phil Maass. Video produced by Lucius Pham.
