Now, this does NOT mean that I am claiming these are the only ones that matter or that the others are 100% not canon, it just means that the video is already complicated enough so early on the decision was made to streamline it to the Kojima-directed titles only. Additionally, because the franchise is so complex I can 100% guarantee there will be at least a handful of minor and even a couple major mistakes in this video, so please let me know if I got something wrong in the comments (respectfully, of course)! #1 - This is not directly stated; however, the knowledge that JFK “fell out of favor with the Philosophers,” I believe alludes to the fact that they assassinated him, hence the "allegedly." #2 - The timing of when Skull Face took the dagger pin is unknown; but, I ultimately decided that it fit best here as it was XOF’s job to clean up after the FOX Unit. The other widely recognized timing of this event is that it happened around the mid 1970’s; but, I find it hard to believe that XOF (and especially Zero) left The Boss body to rot in Tselinoyarsk for that long. Neither option is perfect, which is why I chose the one that, in my opinion, is more interesting. #3 - The timings of all these events are very vague. We don't know exactly what events came first but the fact that they all influence each other makes it that much more difficult to understand. #4 - In my opinion it doesn’t make much sense that Huey and the Soviets had a base in Afghanistan before the invasion; however, Huey’s audio logs make it seem like he was taken there to work on Sahelanthopus not long after the Attack on Mother Base. I know Huey is an unreliable narrator but IMO you kinda have to take what he says as fact because you have to remember that the audio logs are meant to share information with the player. If that information was blatantly false with no way of knowing if it was true then what the hell are the points of the logs to begin with. #5 - In the audio logs, Ocelot states that Volgin is on his way to Cyprus in the time between Big Boss and Venom Snake awoke. I have concluded that this is a plot hole or mistake because every other piece of evidence points to the fact that Volgin only awoke AFTER The Third Child, who himself was awoken by Venom Snake. #6 - There is no definitive time given for when Venom Snake learns his true identity. Additionally, I am fully aware that the tape literally has Operation Intrude N313 on the back of it BUT you have to remember this is a very “interpretation-based” cutscene. It is meant to tell the player what information Venom Snake was told by Big Boss but just because it has N313 on it does not mean he was sent it after N312. It could (and probably does) just mean that he was sent two tapes but this was a way cooler and more cinematic way of showing it. That said, there is no right answer so I was kinda forced to just use the simplest and most vague one. #7 - No, Liquid did not literally take over Ocelot. It was all part of his grand plan that has a million layers, which is why I had to simplify it to its most basic form. Also, MGS2 is extremely vague and, like MGS5, leaves a bunch of stuff up for interpretation. This made it extremely hard to decide how to describe certain events, so if it feels like my writing is less descriptive than in the other games that is because it is. #8 - I chose not to mention the “cybernetic” arm Liquid has in MGS4 deliberately. For one, we don't really know when he got it or really why, and for two, it could be a retcon that implies it was always cybernetic because the whole thing was revealed to be a ruse in MGS4.
