This patient-centred webinar shows you how to collaborate in decisions around your treatment. The webinar panelists (list below) include persons with lived experience with heart valve disease, researchers, and healthcare practitioners to introduce the concept of shared decision-making, share their personal experiences, tools and tips for effective engagement in shared decision-making. Ellen Ross, Managing Director of Heart Valve Voice Canada, and Dr Krystina Lewis, Researcher at the University of Ottawa introduce the concept of shared decision-making, explaining its importance and practical application. Dr Talal Al-Atassi, a cardiac surgeon at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, and Cindi Wheeler, a nurse practitioner for the TAVI programme at Sunnybrook Hospital offer insights from a clinician's perspective on how to effectively engage in shared decision-making and the resources and support patients need to engage in treatment decisions.
