Most people imagine the ocean is silent. It isn’t. This camera was left alone on a shallow Hawaiian reef to record the real sounds of the ocean completely unedited and without humans around. As the sun rises, sea turtles glide past, reef fish move through the coral, and humpback whales sing somewhere out in the deep. The whales you hear in the background are humpback whales migrating through Hawaiian waters. Their songs can travel for miles underwater and often vibrate through the reef long before you ever see them. For most of the year this reef is full of life turtles, sharks, eels, pufferfish, and hundreds of species of fish going about their strange little reef politics. I leave cameras underwater like this so people who may never get the chance to dive can still experience what the ocean actually looks and sounds like.
