MCX SPEAR LT 11.5" 5.56 (Custom Works) Full Build & Price List for "50 Shades of FDE" project.

Starting back on April 3rd 2024, I began the "50 Shades of FDE" Buy Once/Cry Once "Dream Bucket List" build that would wind up taking much longer and being far more expensive than I first estimated. Getting my ATF eForm 4 approval took 201 days, and by the time I was able to pick up the Surefire SOCOM SB2 5.56 suppressor from my local FFL, I had no idea that I was still about a year out from the final completion of this build. What was unexpected is that as I continued buying different components to complete this build, is was about 2 months into the project when I called an audible and decided that from that point going forward I would buy only parts that were either Cerakote'd in FDE or were anodized aluminium finished in FDE or tan as both Surefire and EOTECH list as their product color options. Luckily at that time I had already purchased my suppressor in FDE, my Surefire Mini Scout Light Pro Turbo, and most of the main parts in the many different shades of FDE that exist today, depending on the manufacturer. The only components that I had purchased in black before deciding that if I was building out my dream rifle build, I was going to do it perfectly, was the EOTECH EXPS3/G43 & Unity assembly. I was fortunate in the fact that I had good use for an EOTECH EXPS3-0 and G43 in black on another rifle, so buying those two components in anodized FDE wasn't a big deal. Also, I've picked up several MCX folding stocks, however this has been intentional seeing how each option from the BCM SOPMOD B5, to Sig's MCX Skelotonized folding stock Cerakote'd in Multicam, to the Reptilia RECC-E, and to finally the Magpul Dual-Tension Precision Cerbine with Sig's newest folding buffer tube anodized in a dark FDE are all part of having the option to switch this rifle around when I want to switch things up, for no other reason to have it look and feel differently. Because if you're anything like me, what I've learned about myself throughout the years, especially when it comes to "collecting" materialistic things, I that I get the exact same endorphin rush whether I go out an spend 5 grand on another 9mm pistol that shoots the exact same ammunition as all my other premium quality pistols, or I spend $500 on a new butt stock/folding buffer tube assembly. It's not spending money that give me pleasure or that "endorphin high", but rather it's having something that's new, or feels new. That's just a little life hack that I've learned about myself and it's one that I realized right about the time that my gun collection reached a point where I had a variety of pistols and rifles that covered the different shooting scenarios that one might find themselves in. My collecting philosophy is "quality over quantity" but only after that quanity reaches the point that all my self defense needs have been covered. Any duplicate purchases is ply because a new pistol or rifle simply looks cool, starts to become redundant and excessive IMO. This "bare minimum that I need to cover all my needs" while "buying the premium top quality premium "buy once/cry once" products" while collecting that bare minimum, is the collecting philosophy that gives me what I consider the very best, while saving lots of money in the long run. In other words I'm building out a collection that has both a practical application for solving problems, while doing so with tools that aren't out of place being displayed behind glass or on a gun wall. One of the things I've realized about myself during the process of building out this specific rifle, and although the final grand total isn't inexpensive, what I've noticed is that over the almost year and a half that I've been ordering and replacing perfectly new black components as small as dust covers, forward assists, brass deflectors, magazine release buttons, etc, and then installing/attaching their new FDE counterparts , is that with each order and delivery I get the same endorphin rush as I do buying an entirely separate gun. My point is that in the past 18 months since buying this MCX SPEAR LT I've not purchased any other gun. When you own, shoot, and admire anything that in your mind is the absolute best of the best, it becomes pointless buying new stuff. Because AR the end of the day, you can only shoot one rifle at a time. And if you already have what you think/feel/perceive as the absolute best, the buying a totally new extremely expensive rifle, becomes wasteful. Especially because right from the start it will be your second favorite rifle. Also, this list is an MSRP price list for someone who was interested in building out an exact clone of this build. I purchased most of these components on sale. for example the Geissele SD-3G trigger that MSRP'S for $250, I think I bought for close to $160. Also, I traded a collectors quality Colt Single action chrome revolver plus cash for my H3HARRIS NGAL, saving almost $1500 from the listed grand total in this video.
