Filmed: June & August 2024 📍Rare Animal Pavilion at *Seac Pai Van Park*, Coloane, Macau The park is managed by Macau Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) ⚠️ Sorry! The video contains shaky footage. On 20 August 2024, IAM announced that Lian Sheng and San Hei, his father, were to be returned to mainland China upon the expiry of the loan agreement between IAM and Qinhuangdao Wildlife Rescue Centre. San Hei and Eleven (Lian Sheng's mother) were loaned by the center and came to Macau in 2017. The family of golden snub-nosed monkeys was supposed to be returned to the mainland in 2022; however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the return schedule was delayed. On August 22, 2024, media reported that the father and son were safely transported to Shenzhen Wildlife Park for continued breeding efforts to support their species’ conservation. I visited the park in early August 2024, and fences were set up further away from the exhibit than usual to prohibit visitors from getting close to the exhibit. I was wondering what was going on at that time, but later I found out that it was for the purpose of quarantine. It seems that IAM will no longer keep golden snub-nosed monkeys since they removed the species name from its list of animals they keep in Macau. And when I visited the park recently (April 2025), all signages were removed from their exhibits. Their indoor exhibit was closed to the public. Maybe there is renovation going on. It's kind of sad that we won't be able to see them anymore in Seac Pai Van Park, but I am happy that Lian Sheng and San Hei will be able to have their family once again. I hope they are doing well in Shenzhen. If possible, I would like to try to visit them one day in the future. After the autopsy of Eleven, it was found that there were abnormal lesions in the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, uterus and other organs (✴︎1). San Hei's first son, Lian Zi, passed away on January 12, 2023, due to suffocation from a climbing rope. Upon the unfortunate incident, IAM immediately reviewed the safety of various enrichment toys for the animals to eliminate potential safety hazards (✴︎2).
