Filmed on July 2nd, 2024 with @dea41396returns & July 3rd, 2024 with @PNWElevatorAviation & @suejoshappy . After wanting to see these elevators in person for MANY years, I FINALLY have made it on these! Just like many of the well known NYC elevators, I've watched videos of them for MANY MANY years now, and now that I've FINALLY gotten to see them in person, they very much live up to the hype! And these are certainly NO EXCEPTION! Aside from the New York Marriott Marquis (video coming later!), these elevators were EASILY my favorite Hotel Elevators that I rode in New York City! As I'm sure most of you all know, Otis Elevonic's are EASILY some of my favorite kinds of elevators EVER and now that I've gotten the chance to ride these, I can say that these are WITHOUT A DOUBT one of the best Elevonics that I've been on! Going up 55 floors at 1400 FPM, these elevators are EASILY some of the fastest hotel elevators in NYC, and you FEEL EVERY BIT OF THEIR SPEED when you ride these! Going up, these elevators LAUNCH like ROCKETS and the Acceleration feels VERY POWERFUL and going down they go so fast that if they were going ANY faster, you'd think they are free falling! In addition to their powerful Acceleration & Deceleration, these elevators also shake and jerk a bit, not violently, but in a way that adds a little bit of extra thrill and charm to the experience! These elevators are also ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL with VERY NICE Cabs, and VERY RARE Series 3 fixtures complete with Otis Luxury Lanterns! Interestingly however, despite the fact that these elevators have Series 3 fixtures, these elevators are Elevonic 401, NOT Elevonic 311/411 unlike most other Otis Series 3s I've been on. Prior to seeing a video of the Machine Room for these, I didn't think Otises with Series 3 fixtures could use Elevonic 401 controllers as all of the ones I had ridden behaved noticeably different than typical 401s controller wise, techs have confirmed the elevators were either Elevonic 311 or 411 and AFAIK these fixtures were introduced in 1989 alongside Elevonic 311/411 so in my mind it made sense that these fixtures would only be used on elevators with that controller. However, Elevonic 401 wasn't discontinued until 1991-92, which is also the exact same year these elevators were installed, so I suppose their was an overlap period where you could install Elevonic 401s with these fixtures. And despite being Series 3s, some of the elevators here have the traditional Elevonic 401 beep rather than the Microwave beep or regular Otis beep elevators with Series 3 fixtures typically have, and even though these elevators have Luxury Lanterns, they don't have Luxury chimes which is something most Series 3's have. I'm assuming this is because the Elevonic 401 controllers aren't compatible with being able to provide that chime, but this does definitely add to the uniqueness of this installation. The Motors & Generators (which sound absolutely INCREDIBLE BTW) also have that Elevonic 401 hum too. Interestingly though, despite the fact that these elevators are very much 401s fixtures aside in most ways, SOME of the cars do have the Microwave beep that you commonly see on most Otis Series 3 Luxury Elevators. This hotel being located near the World Trade Center suffered some pretty significant damage during 9/11, I wonder if the controller logic on some of the cars was upgraded around that time but I'm not 100% sure. Regardless, these are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING Elevators! I LOVE the way these elevators run, I love the fixtures, I love the chimes and the Motors make a noise that is absolute MUSIC to my ears! To top these off, these also have a VERY COOL & VERY RARE "OTIS ELEVONIC" logo below the COP that I've NEVER seen before on any other set of elevators outside of these! These elevators just all in all are ABSOLUTE Masterpieces and I'm very glad I got to ride them when I did. Unfortunately however, these are now currently in the process of being modernized by Noveau Elevator since this video was taken. I find this to be very unfortunate as these elevators are a TON of fun and have so much character, uniqueness and thrill, although they also haven't exactly been maintained the best over the last few years and I know unlike me most members of the general public don't like being catapulted at high speed and being able to feel every bit of it like I do. With that being said, I'm definitely glad I got here when I did, these are a set of elevators with character and thrill that I will remember for a lifetime. I hope you guys enjoy the video, this one being my only ride on these ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE & FAMOUS Otis Elevonic 401s with BEAUTIFUL Series 3 fixtures! Installed in 1991-92. To be Modernized in 2024-2025.
