The calling of every believer is not only to hear the Word of God but also to speak it, live it, and apply it both outwardly and inwardly. Many Christians understand the importance of preaching to others, teaching scriptures, encouraging people, and correcting lives through the Word, yet they sometimes forget that the first person who must continually receive the Word is themselves. True spiritual strength begins when the preacher becomes a listener and the teacher becomes a daily student of God’s Word. The Bible makes it clear in Romans 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” This scripture does not limit hearing to church members alone; it applies equally to the one preaching. Faith grows when the Word is heard repeatedly, including when you speak it over your own life. A believer who encourages others but fails to strengthen himself with the same Word may eventually become spiritually weak despite outward ministry activity. Preaching the Word to others is an assignment, but preaching the Word to yourself is survival. Life presents battles, discouragement, delays, and spiritual pressures that cannot be overcome by human strength alone. Even great men of God in the Bible learned to speak to their own souls. David said in Psalm 42:5, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? hope thou in God.” David was not addressing a congregation; he was preaching hope to himself.
