This video is a 2024 remaster of a video originally filmed on April 2nd, 2019 **This siren was replaced by a 2001-130 in February of 2020. The concrete blower support pad still remains.** Siren Information: Type: Thunderbolt model 1000 Manufactured: 1954 by Federal Enterprises Installed: April 1954, refurbished and re-installed in the late 1980's Blower: 4M (Originally 6M, swapped to a 4M in 2017). Rotator RPM: 4 Chopper level: 3 Port ratio: 5 Location: Evanston Fire Station 3, 1106 Central Street, Evanston, Illinois. City Designation: Emergency Siren #5 Testing: First Tuesday of every month at 10:00 AM Cycle: 1-minute alert Technical info: Sirens Heard: Thunderbolt 1000 (170 ft), Whelen 2902 (0.3 mi), several 2001s and Whelen sirens from nearby communities. Main camera: Sony RX100II Secondary camera: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus integrated cameras Recording distance: 170 feet Date: April 2nd, 2019 *Original Description* The test ended up going well, this time, it was just a minute long. Everything went smoothly until the activation. I instantly heard the blower start up, along with the chopper, but even where I was standing, (around 30 feet away) The blower was still very audible. There was no pulsating sound that a proper 6m blower should make, and when I went up to the blower, it did NOT sound like a 6m, and as it turns out, it was a 4m. That was ONE of the things I was bummed out about. The second one is the fact that the camera quality was absolute TRASH. First the video didn't want to process, then it finally works, then it DOESNT WORK. AGAIN, Then finally it works. That is the second reason. Overall, this test was not the best for me, but hey, it's a thunderbolt, and it works. I will revisit Evanston for sure in the summer. The blower was swapped out from a 6M to a 4M sometime in 2017 according to city bill records. The exact reason why this occurred is unknown, but it can be assumed that the original 6M blower experienced a catastrophic failure of some sort.
