Camping at Lake Wenatchee: Rugged Canyons, Hidden Lakes & PNW Photography

Pine trees, hidden lakes, cougar country, deep and brutally beautiful canyons...this was easily one of my favorite summer trips! While I didn't see as many birds as I had hoped, the landscapes around Leavenworth and Lake Wenatchee State Park were so inescapably gorgeous that I focused more on nature photography. The gear I used for this trip included the Leica M11P alongside the 35mm f/1.4 Summilux, 50mm f/1.4 Summilux and 90mm f/2 APO Summicron. For the few wildlife shots I did manage to capture I used the Canon 1DX III alongside the EF 500mm f/4 IS II. I like this kit for a couple of reasons, the first of which being the fabulous image quality of the M11. To have a 60 mp camera with 15+ stops of dynamic range all wrapped up in the size of a package of pop tarts is wild. The 1DX, though heavy, also boasts incredible dynamic range and a rugged durability that leaves me feeling comfortable accidentally dropping it on rocks and in mud...or using it to break my fall as I slide down a steep path. I hadn't explore this part of Washington yet and have it on the top of the list of places to go back to. I hope you enjoy the video and enjoy some of the photos I managed to get along the way.
