Meet Your Farmer - Swan's Maple. Passing the Torch

The weather — no matter the time of year, it’s the force that shapes farmers’ work and the topic of conversation at every farm gate. Drought impacts all of our farmers. Lack of rain reduces pasture growth for livestock and affects crop yields. It also stresses trees like maples and firs leaving them more vulnerable to pests and disease, and slowing growth and regeneration. From the sweetness of winter’s sap run to the strain of this summer’s drought, each season shapes our farms and our future. As we wait for much-needed rain, we’re reminded of how deeply farmers depend on nature’s rhythms — and we look back to a season shaped by nature’s gifts. This past winter, the cold nights and warm days brought the perfect ‘sap weather’ for maple season at Swans Maple Products — a time of hard work, tradition, and the sweet reward of working together as a family.
