SUZI QUATRO Cheap Shot

One of the most influential women in rock is Suzi Quatro. She WAS the 1970's - from 'Can The Can', 'Devil Gate Drive' and 'The Wild One' through to 'If You Can't Give Me Love', and 'Stumbling In'. The hits became fewer and less sizable in the 80's although Suzi valiantly kept mixing up her material to appeal to a broader base, but after a decade it was difficult with synth pop and dance music dominating. Suzi eventually returned to her hard rock roots but after some forays into stage work and musicals. 'Main Attraction' in late 1982 was her last album of pop/rock confections and although it featured a pleasant minor hit 'Heart Of Stone' which is on my channel, the two subsequent singles did not fare well. 'Cheap Shot' with its lyric intro reminiscent of the start of the Ben E King classic 'Stand By Me' is full of guitar licks and a tight drum rhythm. I have chosen it (along with the recently posted 'Candy Man') to represent where Suzi Q was in 1983 - some 40 years ago, Incredibly she is still making music after 50 years all up and will be remembered as a pioneer for women in rock and contemporary music. No cheap shots from me about Suzi Quatro!
