AHVAAN - A CALL TO ACTION || Session 3 - An Effective, Scalable model of Aftercare Services

Ahvaan - A Call to Action: National Conference on Aftercare Services held on 29th January 2025, organized by Catalysts for Social Action (CSA), in partnership with A Future for Every Child (AFEC) and UNICEF, brought together 130+ stakeholders including care leavers, government agencies, NGOs, corporates, and experts from 14 states to deliberate on strengthening aftercare services for care leavers in India. The event provided a platform for learning, collaboration, and sharing of innovative approaches to address existing challenges in aftercare services. Gita Gopal, President and Co-founder of AFEC, gave insights into the shared theory of change bringing together consolidated efforts of four organisations, namely CSA, AFEC, Udayan Care and Sevalaya. The theory of change adopted emphasizes the significance of providing care leavers with flexible yet time-bound support and asserts that after two years of steady employment, a care leaver will have a solid foundation to build a successful life, backing this with the data AFEC has collected over 5-years. She concluded her talk drawing attention to the need to have a shared definition of effective aftercare services and the importance of data to improve the quality of care provided.
