Back from my little break with a build I've been really excited to showcase. Some new life has been breathed into my beloved Lin Whale! At this point I've spent so much money on this board that its 200% gonna be a keeper in the collection. I've had this board for a while now and when I first got it back in late 2023, I really loved it and used it so much. Unfortunately, the old build I had with the vint browns that was emulating v2lley's legendary Whale build really started to get degrade the more I used it, to which I blame on the leafshroud mod. I don't use the mod anymore because I've noticed that in the past, the browns lose their tactility pretty quickly, start developing inconsistencies that I could really feel with the keys that are used the most, and just start to sound thinner. The leafshroud mod damages the leaf a bit and I don't like the results after a while. I honestly quite regret doing the mod on those vints cause it was a really nice batch I paid a lot for but now they're kinda messed up with the only way of saving them being leaf swapping which is already quite unreliable so I don't know what to do with them anymore. I also just wasn't really happy with the Cerakote after a while. This isn't to blame the person to who did the job but idk I just didn't like the flat look and rough texture Cerakote has. Just doesn't hit the way anodization does and I kinda regret doing it. So to about this new build, I'm decently happy with it so far but it still sounds a little bit on the sharper side tone wise (despite being foamed to the gills lol) so might rebuild it later on too. Just like last time, was trying to emulate the v2 whale build but ehh still not fully happy with the sound. I was originally gonna throw in some Greetech browns that I've also been sitting on for a few months but at the last minute decided to throw in these older retooled browns that I've in other sound tests in other boards like the J-02 and the Chimera65. Even though these browns have been absolutely drowned, they still aren't as creamy/subdued sounding as the browns in the original v2lley whale. Also might be a bit of controversial choice in this build, but I also used some EVA switch pads that I've tested out a lot in the past with builds for friends. I've found that they more natural sounding than PE foam by a mile and just add a bit more fullness to a board's sound profile, but ehh idk if I'm in love with them in this build. If I am to rebuild this board again later (which I very likely might), I'd give the Greetech Browns a try, strip away the switch pads, and use a denser case foam. On the re-ano job itself, I paid an absolute arm and leg lol, but man Selim took it out of the park. While his work is way more expensive than Prime, the smoothness and quality of his ano is just immaculate. Absolutely in love with this ano colour matched with GMK Miami, a set I also wasn't expecting to be such a big fan of. Also finally get a USB mini end for my cable and ditched the old rinky dinky converter lol. Since I'm going all out with the Whale andthe Tada68 also only takes USB mini figured I might as well pick one up. Content still gonna come out quite a bit slower, but I'm reinvigorated to rebuild some other stuff that I'll definitely get around to posting eventually.
