...On the sixth morning we woke up in Salt Lake City, and hit the road towards Moab. Just couple of miles before Moab we took right junction into Canyonlands/Dead Horse NP. There were many viewpoints just along the drive. Dead Horse point was first to come and it next to a parking lot - big views with easy effort. We continued to Grand view point in Canyonlands. On the way there was a visitors center, which was closed, but as a liable visitor you could put the payment in an envelope and into a mailbox. It was just some 10 to 20 dollars. I would have wanted to do Shafer trail, but as the drive is kinda steep and sandy people tell to go only if you have four wheel drive. So we had to settle for the views only. Sun started to go down when we arrived to the Grand view point. You could see almost 360 around already, but the overlook point was some mail ahead from the viewpoint. I'd like to think this place as the Grand Canyon #2 - but I think you could see further into the horizon, which was pretty cool. Coming back from the Grand view point the sun was down already, and it wasn't that majestic to see the Mesa Arch. I guess you go there at morning to catch the nice sunrise views. I don't remember quite correctly which maps-apps I used but it needed some wandering around to actually find this place. And so - we drove in dark to our hotel in Moab... We had a nice breakfast early morning just before going to Arches NP, only to notice at the gates that you need to get a timed entry ticket (the thing you have to do more and more in other parks too). Fortunately we could get the ticket just couple of hours ahead (for some 11am). It felt like a safari but you could stop whenever you saw a place that interested you, as there were alot of parking lots next to significant places. The heat was so much higher here in Utah than in earlier places as Yellowstone and Tetons, so we didn't do all-in in hiking. There would have been lots of other cool places to check out but I'm happy with the experience considering the fact we were there only like couple of hours. Moab had cool rock/fossil shop, where we got the idea of Petrified Forest NP stones (or do you prefer fossils/trees). After this visit our next destination was Monument Valley, for which we had hotel booked just outside the Utah border to Arizona. Before that we visited the four states border - I think it wasn't that amazing other than now I can tell my friends for being in four states at the same time, lol. Music by cloudwatcher
