INTRODUCTION Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Ephesians 5:1 “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;” I. OUR FOUNDATION IS THE WORD A. Law Proverbs 3:1 “My son, forget not my law...” Deuteronomy 6:4-7 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: 5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” Ephesians 6:4 “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” B. Commandment Proverbs 3:1b “...but let thine heart keep my commandments:” Deuteronomy 8:11-14 “Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: 12 Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; 13 And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; 14 Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the Lord thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;” Proverbs 3:3 “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart.” Proverbs 6:21 “Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.” Proverbs 3:22 “So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.” II. OUR FOCUS IS CHRIST Hebrews 12:1-2 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” A. Trust in Him Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Romans 11:33-34 “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! 34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?” Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” B. Acknowledge Him Proverbs 3:6 “In all thy ways acknowledge him...” C. Fear Him Proverbs 3:7a “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord...” Ecclesiastes 12:13 “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” III. OUR FUTURE IS DIRECTED A. Direction from the Lord Proverbs 3:6 “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Isaiah 40:3-4 “The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight (yaw-shar) in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:” Psalm 37:23 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” B. Provision from the Lord Proverbs 3:9-10 “Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” Luke 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” CONCLUSION I.
