The normal distribution is a continuous probability distribution that describes how data values are spread around a central value called the mean. It is one of the most important concepts in statistics because many natural phenomena follow this pattern. In a normal distribution, most values are clustered around the mean, and the number of observations decreases as we move further away from the center. The graph of a normal distribution is called a bell-shaped curve because of its symmetrical shape. In this distribution, the mean, median, and mode are equal and located at the center of the curve. The curve is perfectly symmetrical about the mean, meaning that the left side and the right side are mirror images of each other. The total area under the curve represents probability and is equal to 1. A normal distribution is completely described by two parameters: the mean (μ) and the standard deviation (σ). The mean determines the position of the center of the distribution, while the standard deviation measures how spread out the data values are from the mean. A small standard deviation indicates that the values are close to the mean, whereas a large standard deviation shows that the values are more widely spread.
