Little crochet sheep are cute toys and also make great pincushions! These amigurumi sheep are so much fun to make - it’s a nice quick easy crochet project, perfect for stash busting and using up yarn scraps because whatever colours you crochet them with, the sheep always look really sweet. There’s not much sewing involved because you crochet the sheep’s nose, ears, body and tail all in one. Only the legs are made separately and sewn in place. I’ve included detailed instructions on each step, including positioning and sewing. I have a sheep which I use as a pincushion but I also often give them as kids toys or novelty stress toys (squish a sheep!). I made a lot of sheep for this video, and all of the sheep that appeared in this video are being donated to be sold at my local hospital gift shop. If you’d like to see the card I’ve made to go with my ‘Emergency Sheep’ there is a photo of it up on my community page, here: https://www.youtube.com/@wheeliemadei... I’d love to see how your sheep turn out! If you share photos of your sheep on Instagram please tag me (Wheeliemadeitcrochet) and use the hashtag #emergencysheep If you’d like to share photos of your sheep with me and you’re not on Instagram, you can email them to me wheeliemadeit (at) gmail.com Here are links to more detailed tutorials on some of the techniques used to crochet the sheep: Magic Circles 101: • Magic Circles 101: Crochet tips for beginners Front loop single crochet tutorial (this is a nice clear video tutorial by @yarnistco) • The Front Loop Single Crochet Stitch (FLsc... Yardage estimates (rounded up to the nearest metre): No. 2 weight yarn (Aus 4 ply): Colour 1: 7m / 7.6 yards, Colour 2: 7m / 7.6 yards No. 3 weight yarn (DK / Aus 8 ply): Colour 1: 6m / 6.5 yards, Colour 2: 9m / 9.8 yards No. 4 weight yarn (worsted weight): Colour 1: 5m / 5.5 yards, Colour 2: 8m / 8.7 yards I slightly messed up when I gave the sheep measurements in the video, please forgive me! I measured some of them in inches and some in centimetres and rather than calculating the conversion, I just turned my tape over to get the other unit of measure - I didn’t realise the two sides aren’t actually lined up on my new measuring tape. I didn’t notice until after I published the video that there was clearly a mistake because I’d put 2cm as equalling an inch, which even I know isn’t right… 🙄. So here are the correct approximate sizes for the sheep. No. 2 weight sheep measure: 2.5cm (1 inch) tall x 4cm (1.5 inches) long No. 3 weight sheep measure: 3cm (1.18 inches) tall x 6cm (2.3 inches) long No. 4 weight sheep measure: 6cm (2.3 inches) tall x 9cm (3.5 inches) long (These measurements are intended to give you an idea of how large your sheep will be, your sheep may turn out a little bigger or smaller because your own stitch style will affect the finished size of your sheep, as will variations in yarn thickness).
