CINCINNATI (WKRC) - If you have a teenager, new research says the gateway to smoking is changing. More teens are vaping and more are getting hooked on nicotine. "Because it has such a high level of nicotine, kids are going to get addicted much quicker," said health educator Joyce Jacobs. A study in JAMA Network Open says e-cigarette use is the new gateway to smoking. Researchers found that teens who started vaping were more than four times more likely to begin smoking traditional cigarettes compared to teens who had never used them. The study also found that adolescents who initially showed no interest in smoking were almost nine times more likely to take up the practice after vaping first. Many think e-cigarettes don't have nicotine, but not only do they have it, sometimes they have more.
