What a wonderful couple of months it has been for Shirehampton Christmas Illuminations! We kicked things off with our very first Light Up Event on the 21st of November, which put everyone in a truly Christmassy mood, followed by our biggest and best event of the year—The Shire Santa Dash! It was a rather wet one this year, so we were doubly thankful to the 150+ Santas who ran the race. A big shout-out to those who took part with babies in carriers—you deserved a medal just for that! As always, we started and finished the festivities at the PBA. A massive thank you to them for hosting us and helping make it a quality community event for all. After the marquee nearly took flight, it was time for the Santas to be released! This year the honours went to the lovely Alex Lovell from ITV West Country News and her gorgeous Labrador, Harvey, who made an excellent reindeer in his festive headpiece. It was wonderful to see how gracious and caring Alex is off-screen—posing for photos, standing in solidarity with us in the rain, and still managing to look glamorous right to the very end, where she welcomed our runners back with cheers and medals. Now, it’s time to announce the winners in our three challenge categories: Male Colin Davis-20:40 Youth/Child 1st Thomas Night 23:51 2nd Felix Davis Female Jo Davis 25:51 With everyone back at the PBA, it was time to fill our bellies, celebrate at the bar, and mooch around the Christmas Market. There were tasty burgers flipped by the PBA team and delicious Authentic Greek Wraps from Go Greek! The market was buzzing—the singers were singing, people were dancing and laughing, and with everyone still dressed up, it felt like we were truly at the North Pole! The raffle was drawn, and the giant llama was correctly named and claimed by LUKE HALL!! It was so lovely to hear how proud everyone is of the village and how fantastic it looks. So many people told us how much it made them smile walking and driving through our village. We work incredibly hard each year to make it sparkle and bring our community together. As you’ll know from our many posts on social media, it costs us thousand’s every year just to get the licence and switch the lights on—not to mention new lights and repairs. We want to keep the village lit for many years to come, and we are so grateful to everyone who donates. Please keep supporting us! A big shout-out to the marshals this year—you kept in contact brilliantly so we knew when the first and last runners were on their way, and you made it easy for everyone to stay on the right route! We greatly appreciate the generous financial donations from our sponsors, businesses and individuals this year, which has given us a real boost to the funds! Thank you to all who enthusiastically support us at our events throughout the year! Last but certainly not least a massive Thank You! to Bob Pitchford for always being there to take the most amazing photos! we really appreciate your commitment and talent. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas—and keep an eye on our Facebook group for more fundraising events we will be arranging throughout 2026!
