This is another video in my series “Walks in Hampshire” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode I take a 3.5 mile circular route to the North of Romsey in Hampshire (the town is located 7 miles North West of Southampton). I start the walk with a little exploration of the town itself by passing through Market Place – which has some splendid historic buildings – and then on to the magnificent Romsey Abbey (now the largest parish church in Hampshire) & The Folly House next door. The small tour of Romsey is completed by a visit to the War Memorial Park which includes an impressive bronze of a war horse & soldier as well as a complete Japanese Field Gun from WW2. I then head to the Plaza Theatre where I start my meander through the countryside – initially following the path of a disused canal. Along the way, I explore a restored Victorian railway signal box (now a museum). The Fishlake Meadows Nature Reserve provide an alluring view on my left and the canal looks so peaceful on my right as I head North. Eventually I change direction by heading West across some water meadows before coming across an enchanting channel of the River Test – a little piece of Heaven! Finally I head back South towards Romsey, following an A road & then a woodland footpath through the Industrial Estates back to my car. Map courtesy of Google Maps.
