Lot’s to cram in for just a 3 mile walk! We start our Eaves Wood, Silverdale walk via the carpark situated on the edge of Eaves Wood itself. We have pinpointed the start on our website and on our viewranger walk. Our first stop is the Middlebarrow quarry, hidden away in the centre of Eaves Wood. Quite stunning upon approach, such a HUGE space! Continue back on the woodland trail, walking parallel with the Furnless line train track at one point, bending off behind the quarry into the woods, with a view of Arnside Knott on the right, before eventually approaching our second stop, the ruin of Arnside Tower. The tower was built in the late 14 or early 15th century, perfectly situated between Arnside and Silverdale for protection of the borders, intended to counter lightly armed raiders rather than to withstand a siege of a large army. Moving on, after hoping the stile just to the left behind Arnside tower, before long we cut through Holgates Holiday Park, Silverdale, before returning into Eaves Wood to our final stop off, Pepperpot viewpoint; a monument erected to celebrate Queen Victoria's Jubilee. From here to finish this stunning short walk, descending down through the woods back towards the carpark. We love it up here! A cracking spot for sitting down to eat sandwiches, enjoying the views of Silverdale and far beyond on a clear day, down the coastline, as well as inland looking back towards the Forest of Bowland. We are just so lucky in Lancashire for hosting many beautiful walks such as Eaves Wood in Silverdale.
