Tenkara Nymphing for Big Fish

I was out in mid September doing some Tenkara nymphing when I was able to hook into a 19" Brown. Had to fight to keep him out from some undercut boulders, but was able to land em'. I also caught some Cutthroats. I was using the Tenkara USA Ito with a tapered line and about 2 feet of 4X tippet. I had someone in the parking lot who was thinking you couldn't nymph using Tenkara. I have fished the Western style since the 90's and started Tenkara about 2015 and I think nymphing is much more effective with Tenkara. It is so easy to feel the hit and if it is a very slight take, the line always tightens as it did with the big fish in this video. Watch for the line to go taut just before I set the hook. I hope everyone will give Tenkara a try. I have spent way too many years learning about the different fly patterns that work on streams, so I am not using traditional Tenkara flies. So I stick to the flies I think will work. Tight lines!!!
