Restoring Grasslands by Removing Invasive Plants - A documentary

Biological invasions are one of the biggest threats that impact biodiversity and human well being. The sub-Himalayan tall grasslands in Manas National Park which provides excellent ecological, economic and cultural services at local scale, are on the verge of destruction due to the spread of alien invasive plants (IAPs). We conducted studies that highlighted around 30 % of the existing grasslands in Manas are affected by IAPs and need immediate attention to avert invasion. Our study also identified the best measure to manage the invasive plants to aid in recovery of the native grassland community. In this video documentation that was conducted during the later part of our study, we showcase how implementing the "trial and tested" method of manually uprooting the invasive plants have paved the way for revival of grassland habitat to safeguard the obligate species and human well being as well.
