The Kodomo-no-Kuni Line in Yokohama City is a 3.4km line connecting Nagatsuta Station and Kodomo-no-Kuni Station. "Kodomo-no-Kuni" means "children's country." It's a combination of "kodomo" (children) and "kuni" (country). This amusement park opened in 1965. The Kodomo-no-Kuni Line opened in 1967 as an access railroad to the park. Kodomo-no-Kuni Station is about a three-minute walk from the park's main gate. This park is actually located on the site of a former Imperial Japanese Army munitions depot. It was chosen from several candidate sites because it's not far from Tokyo and because the siding tracks once used to transport ammunition could be repurposed for an access railroad. Even today, rusty iron doors can be found here and there on the cliffs within the park, telling of the site's history. However, for those who don't know that this is the site of an munitions depot (which is the case for most young people; only train enthusiasts know), the rusty doors are unlikely to be of interest. In the past, long trains would run directly to the city center during tourist seasons, but now most trains are two-car EMUs that ply the 3.4km route. Onda Station, an intermediate station, opened in 2000 in response to a petition from local residents who wanted to use the line for commuter transport. Tokyu Corporation's Nagatsuta Vehicle Factory stands next to the station.
