Billed as Great Britons first fully automatic front loading washing machine. It washes your cloths and rinses them three times in warm water and then spins damp dry ready for the line or dryer all automatically. This model was manufactured with no internal heater, so you have to make sure you stoke up the open fire to heat the water tank or switch on the immersion heater before washing any loads. Built like a tank and weighs a ton like a tank, made in Birmingham when we actually made good British consumer good and appliances, these machines had to be bolted to the concrete floor, no suspension like today's modern machines or it would have taken off during a spin. One motor runs constantly driving the drain pump mounted on the back of the motor and a gear box drives the wash drum in a constant clock wise direction at 59rpm wash speed, a solenoid drives the gear shifter to achieve spin speed measured at 407rpm Another solenoid drives a valve on the pump allowing the water to drain out. Water control is achieved by a float switch unlike today's modern machines which use pressure switches; it's very mechanical with a water level adjustment for smaller or larger loads. The restoration continues, the machine is now water tight after the sump to float switch tube replacement using a length of garden hose. A modern temporary drain hose has been fitted while I source a new rubber replacement. I had to fashion a sump door gasket out of an old rubber car mat, but it work and no leaks. Further work is required including the draining and replacement of the drive unit oil and the solenoid water valves have stuck one open the other closed due to lime scale build up.
