In this video, you will learn how to use the pushbuttons and display to manually program the SA thermal flow sensor from ifm, as well as how to access the written instructions from the product datasheet on the ifm website. The SA series thermal flow sensor uses calorimetric sensing principles to provide a reliable alternative to paddle wheel flow switches. By measuring the cooling effect of flowing liquids, the RTD elements in the tip of the probe measure flow rate based on how fast heat energy is flowing away from the sensor tip. These sensors can be used with water, oil, glycol, and air in pipe sizes up to 16” in diameter. With embedded IO-Link technology, you can measure relative flow, flow velocity, flow rate, and temperature with one sensor. IO-Link allows you to send multiple process values to higher level software for additional visualization, historical recordkeeping, and value trending. Common industrial applications for this flow sensor include monitoring pumps for run dry protection and monitoring flow rate of water or glycol solutions in chiller pipes of HVAC equipment.
