Eddie Walker (Singer, Guitarist and Songwriter) Born 31 October 1948 in the North of England. Eddie Walker was drawn to anything described as folk or country in his early years and with his love of music and his chosen instrument, a second-hand acoustic guitar he began his musical career. His first paid booking came in 1967, at the age of eighteen. Together with guitar and bass guitarist Frank Porter, Eddie supported Tiny Tim and Long John Baldry at local night-clubs playing to sizeable audiences. Booked to play the “club” tent at Cambridge, Eddie bought his first Martin guitar. He heard Steve Goodman and John Prine and turned his own hand to songwriting. By 1975 his self-penned songs were winning prizes at festivals across the country. TV work and festival bookings followed and he returned to Cambridge for a “Mainstage 2” booking in 1977. On record, he released an EP and four albums, the second of which was a compilation of his residency appearances at the “Cutty Wren” in Redcar on the Yorkshire coast. Eddie returned to Cambridge in ‘84 and ‘90, teamed up with Welsh guitar wizard John James, leading to the formation of the duo “Carolina Shout!” which over the next 8 years or so, played extensively all over Europe and the UK. “Carolina Shout!” finished touring in ‘95 and Eddie returned to solo work and the making of a video concert album, ‘Live At The Albert Hole!’. His solo career re-established, his repertoire and guitar skills further developed, he returned to the folk club and festival scene playing throughout the UK and elsewhere - writing, travelling and performing the mix of contemporary and traditional folk, blues and country, that his audiences loved, well into the first part of the 21st century. Now retired, Eddie’s ragtime and country blues, encompassing the styles of artists such as ‘Big’ Bill Broonzy, Mississippi John Hurt and Rev. Gary Davis is much missed – this recording is a chance to hear again this incredibly entertaining musician.
