The 300 f4 AF-s. I know that there is a new one out... The 300 f4 PF that's lighter and has VR, but it is £1400... and that for many is far from budget! That's why the older 300 f4 AF-s model, that can easily be found secondhand for around £400 is a top quality consideration for those on a budget, especially as it will pair nicely with both DX and FX cameras, making it a perfect investment lens! This is the lens I used for my first few years as a pro. Today, even with the latest cameras and sensors I still rate it as a top value bit of glass!
