/// ENGLISH SUBTITLES BELOW /// The European Law School (network) was established in 2006 by its three founding members (King’s College London, Humboldt University and Université Panthéon-Assas, Paris 2) in order to establish and develop the European Lawyer programme (the ‘Juriste Européen’). Since then, the University of Rome La Sapienza (Rome, Italy), the University of Amsterdam (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Athens, Greece) as well as the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Lisbon, Portugal) have joined this prestigious program. The “European Lawyer” study course is a combination of the two core contents that are necessary for a top legal profession today: the law on the national level and the European solutions. Students on this programme pursue undergraduate studies at their home institution for three years and follow that by spending a year each at two of the three partner universities, obtaining a Masters degree at each. During their fourth and fifth years, students concentrate on specialist subject areas. It allowed me to be fluent in three different languages, well, two different languages and French, which I already speak fluently. And to learn more about three different legal systems – all very important in the European Union. 00:29 - Surely, I chose to apply to the European Law School because it is a fascinating programme. Most of all, the opportunity to study in two more of the most renowned universities in Europe always teased me. Also, the opportunity to get to know new students, to get in touch with other legal systems is definitely a great promise for a law student at the very beginning of their studies. This turned out to be a sound decision. 01:09 - I personally have an international background and have always been interested in law. But I found the idea difficult, to be later bound to one country because of my profession. Therefore, I think it’s very interesting that the European Law School provides a great opportunity to act on a global stage. 01:27 - For me, it’s mainly for personal reasons: I really do see myself as a citizen of the European Union and I am convinced by the European idea. At some point, I’d like contribute to the functioning of Europe. For this purpose, the European Law School offers a great basis! How does the program benefit your career? 01:46 - I would recommend the European Law School to all students who are interested in a transnational career, because having been a part of the European Law School means having acquired certain language skills, profound knowledge of different legal systems in different European States and the ability to adapt to different academic contexts. 02:21 - The European Law School represents the beginning and the foundation of my career. Thanks to my qualification as European Lawyer I was employed in my home country, Turkey, as the youngest lecturer ever in a law faculty at a public university. 02:38 - / Which is your favourite aspect about the programme? 03:09 - The best part of the experience for me was to be able to live in two foreign countries, Germany and England; and therefore, to get to know two new countries and two new languages; to get to know these two very international and European cities: London and Berlin. I also had the opportunity to make new friends from different nationalities in London and in Berlin. This experience allowed me to open up to new horizons. 3:32 - /
