The Royal Castle in Warsaw is a monument to Polish history and culture. It was once the seat of the Mazovian Dukes and then, until the loss of independence in 1795, a royal residence and the seat of the Sejm of the so-called Polish Commonwealth of Two Nations (i.e. Poland and Lithuania). In 1926-39 the President of the Polish Republic, which regained its independence in 1918, lived there. Currently the Royal Castle is a museum which open to the general public, and a venue for important State events. The Castle was destroyed in 1939-1944 on Hitler's orders by Germans and rebuilt between 1971 and 1984 due to the resolve of the Polish nation. Director of the Royal Castle in Warsawa - Museum, prof. Wojciech Fałkowski invites to visit this unique place. Author: PAP - The Polish Press Agency
