Chasing the MILKY WAY in the PYRENEES 🌌 | Cinematic nightscape adventure | Astrophotography

The Pyrenees mountains, straddling France and Spain, are crisscrossed by ancient paths of pilgrimage and salvation - these rugged, steep and sometimes very remote tracks formed escape routes for thousands of persecuted Jewish families and others fleeing Vichy France during the second world war. One August night I headed up one of these tracks to a pass that marked the border between Spain and France, high above the cities and their accompanying light that line the Mediterranean coast. I was met with wonderfully dark skies and a Milky Way core that seemed to burst out of the deep dark skies to the south west. These opportunities for wild and remote nights, under dark skies, are always cherished - accompanied throughout the night by the unceasing chirps of crickets, the occasional hoots of owls and the bark of foxes.
