Their visit would be short, but they could not leave without seeing the place where their story began, in Petilia Policastro, the town of their ancestors. More than a century ago, Vincenzo and Maria left this village with hope in their hearts and dreams of a better life in America. ❤️🌿 They boarded a ship in 1920, headed to Ellis Island, and never had the chance to return home. Yet their legacy endured, carried quietly across time and oceans. Now, over one hundred years later, their great-grandchildren walked the same narrow streets and stood before the house of their great-grandmother for the very first time. In that moment, past and present met. 👣🏡 The people of Petilia Policastro welcomed them like family. Giuseppe Caruso, Sia, Silvana, and many others filled the day with kindness, laughter, and small gifts made with love. 🤗❤️ It was not just a visit. It was a homecoming, a testament to the enduring power of heritage and the roots that connect us to our past. Francesco and Maria once lived in the oldest part of town, known as Rupa. They worked hard, built a life in Illinois, and raised a family with the same strength and spirit they carried from their homeland. Their great-grandchildren stood in the place where that strength was born, feeling that connection that continues for generations and never fades. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do.
