Filmed on Wednesday, November 27 2024, I drive around Pacific, MO to see what's going on. The town was founded in 1852 under the name Franklin. The following year, the Pacific Railroad laid tracks in the town, and in honor of the railroad the city changed it's name. Pacific was the site of a civil war battle between Union forces from Saint Louis and Confederates from the Arkansas Cavalry. Given Pacific's proximity to St. Louis, it was seen as the last line of defense against a Confederate invasion of the city. During the Cold War, Pacific housed a missile site that was part of America's first anti-aircraft missile system called Nike Ajax. Route 66 passes through Pacific, and adjacent to Route 66 are distinctive sandstone bluffs which are mined for silica sand. #drivingtour #smalltownlife #missouri
