Firstly, he went under the name DJ Wildchild, however there was another famous female Jungle DJ with the same name who was on the infamous London pirate Kool FM 94.5 and also a resident at Thunder & Joy @Raw Club, Great Russell St. A few months later, he changed his name to DJ Wiley and continued to DJ for the remainder of 1995, before switching over to become MC Wiley Kat in 1996. Wiley was multifaceted, he could DJ, MC and produce. Though he changed his name you could understand the reasons for calling himself Wildchild as he was an inner city youth struggling against a system that didn't care. Surprisingly, Wiley decided to briefly become a garage DJ/producer (under alias Phaze One). Little did anyone know what the future held for one east London's finest budding stars. Following those brief stints Wiley formed, The Entourage (precursor for Roll Deep), in 2000 and recorded "Terrible" with Breeze, Bubbles & Flowdan which was later released on Solid City Records in 2001. Then laying down his vocals on "Know We" - Pay As You Go Cartel (PAUG). Splitting up from the PAUG to set up the Roll Deep Entourage (Roll Deep) with Riko, Flow Dan, Danny Weed, Karnage, Trim, Breeze, Scratchy, Brazen, Jet Le and Roachee. Continuing to produce under the alias Eskiboy. Wiley took the music scene by storm and was one of the pioneers of Grime music, even being honoured the title by the scene as the "Godfather of Grime". Although from this point you can already see Wiley's style and lyrics were geared towards clashing MCs. Beginning with the Pay As You Go vs Heartless Crew, at Destiny's Nightclub, Watford. It wasn't long before the clashing culture became part of Wiley's everyday routine. In 2002, he clashed Durrty Doogz (Durrty Goodz) on a back to back session on Rinse FM 100.3 also using Choice FM as a platform to send for MCs. Releasing a series War Dub Plates against Durrty Goodz which people scored as Wiley's first defeat. Wiley continued to send for Doogz, Crazy Titch and Boyz In Da Hood. Meanwhile, more beef was boiling, there was the infamous clash live on air, Wiley vs Lethal B (Lethal Bizzle) on Deja Vu FM 92.3 where he buried Lethal, the clash continued into 2004 after the Lethal Bizzle's solo release of "Pow" which had a whole heap of MCs sending for Lethal, from B-Live, Godgift and Riko Dan. Wiley went would war with the More Fire Crew, Fire Camp, Boyz In Da Hood and the list kept growing. Shortly after the Deja Vu FM saga, in 2003, Wiley teamed up with Dizzee Rascal clashing the So Solid Crew's Asher D (Ashley Walters) on Commander B's show on London's Choice FM. It was a busy year for clashes in 2003, with Risky Roadz, with Ghetto (Ghetts). It wasn't by coincidence that he later built Eskibeat tracks like "Igloo" and "Ice Rink". In 2004, Wiley clashed Kano (Nasty Crew) on Lord of The Mics: Wiley vs Kano. Wiley also clashed Nasty Jack (NJ Fever (Nasty Crew)), Wiley Vs Nasty Jack @Sidewinder 2006 which he won. Him NJ Fever clashed again and Wiley still came out victorious, Dizzee Rascal, Dot Rotten, Skepta and recently with Stormzy (Wiley - Eediyat Skengman (Stormzy Send)). Wiley had previously founded Roll Deep (Roll Deep Entourage) which laid down the foundations for the early Grime movement. Featuring members: Scratchy, Flowdan, Breeze, Brazen, Manga Saint Hilare, Riko Dan, J2K, DJ Karnage, DJ Target, Dizzee Rascal, Tinchy Stryder, Biggie Pitbull, Dom P, DJ Wonder, Jamakabi, Bubbles, DJ Bionics, JME, Jet Le, Trim, Roachee, DJ Maximum, Syer Barz, Skepta, Jammer, Danny Weed, Killa P, Little D. Wiley had the grand idea of building bases on other platform all across London to popularise and familiarise London audiences with Roll Deep, their members and their music. In all honesty his plan worked. Roll Deep were doing sets on Raw Mission FM, Freeze FM, Deja Vu FM, Heat FM, Delight FM and many others pirates. In 2005, Wiley also joined BBK (Boy Better Know), a Grime collective which was formed JME and Skepta, also featuring artists like Frisko, Jammer, Preditah, Shorty, Solo 45 and DJ Maximum. In 2020, Wiley had beef with Stormzy over his flow being appropriated and not getting enough recognition from younger artists. Wiley released several Stormzy war tracks: "Eediyat Skengman" part 1, 2 and 3. Stormzy responded with "Wiley Flow", "Disappointed" and "Still Disappointed" Later on that year, Wiley was outcast by the music industry after his outburst against his agent and for raising awareness of the exploitation of young Black men by the music industry. He was cancelled by all social media platforms and blocked from posting. #takemebackpirateradio #dnbmovementuk #rinsefm #jungleclassics #wiley
