Teresa Lindhardt, 55, had major depressive disorder, also called clinical depression. It affects how a person feels, thinks and behaves and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. It is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. for people ages 15 to 44, affecting more than 16 million American adults, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. After six weeks of daily treatments with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) at UC San Diego Health, Lindhardt said she was free of the symptoms of depression that disrupted, and twice nearly ended, her life. “For me, this has been the most life-changing thing that has ever happened,” said Lindhardt. UC San Diego Health was the first provider in San Diego to offer transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for individuals with hard-to-treat depression and now has the largest and most advanced TMS clinic in the region. Our physicians continue to be at the forefront of innovation for targeted, personalized mental health care. More about TMS for depression: https://health.ucsd.edu/specialties/b...
